Divorce, custody and housing... question...
Having done a lot of reading around this, I believe that if you own a house jointly then neither party in a divorce can be forced to leave by the other.

Has anyone actually done this i.e. got divorced and stayed in same house at least in short term? And what was effect on the kids?

Is the idea of doing this living in cloud cuckoo land (there is no third party involved so not THAT nasty situation, at least not yet)?

I's unlikely the house will have to be sold unless you both agree. However the idea you can both live there is very unrealistic.

Soon enough you will move on with other birds and enjoying life with your mates or will be baby sitting while she brings back uni students and have to listen to her being banged between lectures.

The best advice I could give you is try not to get lawyers involved as they will take all your money and living together beyond the short term is really a non starter, even if it doesn't seem like it now.

Good luck to the students.

I didn't mean living together long term but most people I speak to have just moved out even before they've even started divorce process.

Don't get married again, Fiff.

All women, without exception, are greedy, grubbing gold-diggers.

I am guessing if you move out the house will always go to the wife FOR THE GOOD OF THE KIDS.
Staying put is probably the only chance of any 'equal' settlement that doesn't involve you living in a shoebox somewhere.

On the (very) bright side, my love, you can ditch all that muslim malarkey now. :-)

Ever see the episode of Steptoe and Son where they divided the house in half?
Could be a compromise.

Cant you just demote them down the wife batting order and move them out into the shed?

Fifth Column 11:38 Mon Jan 9
Re: Divorce, custody and housing... question...
She's already in the shed... that's why we're getting divorced.

What even if the woman wants one??

My sister (the UNIslamic one) and her boyfriend split up... they had been together 10 years or so and had a couple of kids so no divorce as such... he gave her £70,000 as her share of the house (where he still lives)

Re: Divorce, custody and housing... question...
Yes even if the woman wants one... that's IN PRINCIPLE. Having said this, it becomes massively difficult in practice because more Muslim countries are so patriachal.

Do you reckon if I gave my Mrs £70K equity in cash she'd just leave... thinking aloud... hmmm

Yes it's crossed my mind as a possibility but on reflection I don't think she's strong enough to kill me so I reckon I'm safe on that score.
